3 Peaks Challenge

3 Peaks Challenge

After having raised £200 from the raffle held at the first line dancing weekend in April at the Trouville Hotel with the very kind contributions of all the line dancers & organizers, I then had to go ahead and actually walk/climb the National 3 Peaks. The weekend of 21/22 June 2008 found me taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge with three colleagues being the other walkers and with two drivers to support us.  Our aim was to complete the challenge in as close a time to 24 hours as possible but ultimately that we would walk up and down all 3 mountains – do or die.

Ben Nevis was first and is considered the hardest as the start is almost at sea level so you have to climb nearly all the 1344m to the summit. Yes it was hard but we did it and then it was off to Scafell Pike in the Lake District.  We had to encounter torrential rain & horizontal hail with high winds but still we made it and then it was off to the land of the dragon & Snowdon was the last part of the challenge.  Despite having to walk against winds of 65mph & then almost being blown off at the summit we eventually finished with a time of 27 hours & 34 minutes. Not too bad really.

It was a fantastic event that I would be happy to repeat. I’m not sure my team mates fell the same but it was all in a good cause.  We are still awaiting the final figures of donations and sponsorships but I believe it will be in the region of £1000 to be divided between Leukaemia Research & River Drama, which is a drama school for Downs Syndrome Children.

I would like to thank Isle of Wight Tours & the Trouville Hotel for their kind support of this event and its causes. I look forward to be at the Trouville next year for another fantastic weekend of line dancing with the usual great performers.

Jane Bruton.
